Sleep is…well completely mad when you think about it! Why in the world would we evolve to spend 1/3 of our days, and thus 1/3 of our lives in a state of relative unconscious when there are plenty of animal out there that want to eat us or our families, we could be gathering more food and resources, or anything seemingly more productive than simply laying there in another world.
I dive into this, some recent scientific literature around sleep, and how we can take proactive steps to pull the reins in on sleep so we can use it as another tool in our kit bag that we use to build a more resilient and thus more prosperous and fulfilling life.
Experience Comes From Making Bad Decisions
Good decisions come from experience. But Experience comes from bad decisions.Learn from mistakes and move on.
Experience Is The Name Everyone Gives To Their MistakesIf we don’t make mistakes, how will we ever know that it wasn’t a good decision? Mistakes can often be hurtful or embarrassing, but if we focus on the wisdom and growth that can arise from those experiences, we become better people in the end. In fact, our experience is defined by trial and error, reflection and change, and success rests upon our ability to take risks, own up to our mistakes, and try even harder the next time around.
This Is Why You Should Believe in Your DreamsEverybody says you should believe in your dreams, but do you know why this is important and how you can start believing more in your dreams. In this article I discuss why it is important to believe in your dreams and how to start believing in your dreams.
The Gospels Direct Our Focus Upon Jesus Christ, the MessiahThe Word of God came to John – John preached and baptised. Jesus came from Nazareth to be baptised by John – to fulfil all righteousness – and Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit, by God the Father. He is then tempted. After blessing, He is tried, tested, tempted. An experience of the wilderness is almost essential in the life of the man of God. JESUS overcomes – triumphs – and returns to Nazareth – and even when reading the lesson in the synagogue and making the briefest of comments, everything appears so very different. Jesus Christ calls disciples. Now this is what God had always been doing – calling men – Abraham – Moses – Joshua – Isaiah – Jeremiah – and others. Jesus begins by calling Peter and Andrew and James and John and Matthew – and a few others. There is nothing radically new in God’s method. He uses men – people. God is deeply interested in people – in fellowshipping with people – in saving people from their sins – that is why Jesus came!
The Life and Ministry of Jesus ChristReviewing the life and ministry of Jesus can be inspiring – because it is Jesus who says, “Follow me”. This can also help us explain to other people what we believe and why we believe it – and this knowledge is the most precious knowledge we can have. When we see Jesus Christ, there should be that desire – that longing – that yearning – not only to admire and follow – not only to obey Him – but to seek to become like Jesus – and that is the challenge each of us faces. John Chapter 20 verses 19 to 29 – we have this responsibility to trust the biblical message. Four Gospels – they were written around 60 to 90 A.D. They complement each other.
Trust God to Fulfil His Promises In All Situations – Quite A Challenge In These Present DaysFears can paralyse us. Pills and counselling are not very helpful when it comes to fear. There is one fear which can deliver us from all other fears – the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This fear involves a loving reverence and awe and admiration for our gracious God. We fear losing God’s smile upon us. This fear acts like a medicine getting to the roots and dealing with all other fears. Proverbs 9 verse 10 Protection, safety and refuge – there are many predators. God is never remote – He is tender and protective. So – we can trust in Him – we can trust God. Trust means we believe that Almighty God is holding our life, and that He is constantly working to ensure His purposes and promises are brought to pass – even through our mistakes, flaws and imperfections. Pestilence and disease – arrow depicting violence – no harm. Does that mean if bad things happen to us, we are not trusting God. No!
In These Present Times How Worried Should We Be?Jesus says to His disciples – “Do not worry”. Jesus is not teaching His disciples not to care – nor to do nothing – but He is teaching them not to worry. The birds have to go and find their food. Do not let your lives be dominated, ruined, or spoiled by worry – Jesus tells us why. Jesus is teaching disciples about anxiety. Some six times, in this short passage, Jesus refers to being anxious – or worried. Worry come from an old English word meaning to strangle or choke. Jesus is challenging disciples about our pride – our faithlessness – the ways in which we can be so easily distracted. This is not a nice psychological message. This is not some sweet and honey coated teaching. He is challenging our pride and faithlessness and independence. Jesus sets before us a path – and a way to live – so that we can be fruitful disciples.
